The ROG Strix Scar 16 has high-end specs but is still a portable device. Its 17-inch screen has an 144Hz to 240Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution, which is still high enough for an immersive experience. The battery will last 6-8 hours when used in a variety of ways and the fans are quiet even when under load.

The Scar 16 has a design that is a little gamer-like however, it’s not flashy. Its most notable characteristic is its prismatic lid, that is able to catch light and shine it through 8,279 tiny holes to create a rainbow-like look. The hinge on the display of the laptop lifts the rear of the chassis, which increases airflow and allows the keyboard to slope towards you. Asus calls this hinge its ErgoLift.

This laptop is ideal for gaming, but it’s also able to handle other processing-intensive tasks, such as editing images or video. It’s got plenty of ports – USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 2.0b, 3.5mm combo jack avast vs avg antivirus and Gigabit Ethernet — and a dedicated SD card slot. The speakers are strong, but can distort and then become shrill when you play them at high volume. You’ll want to pair them with headphones. You’ll have to get rid of unwanted software, like McAfee Personal Security or the Dolby application.
